Database Maintenance and Backups

GISquirrel allows you to store your spatial datasets in SQL Server or PostGIS, providing a robust and scalable data management platform. You might be adding spatial data to existing databases, or you may be starting from scratch with a new database.

Either way, it is important to make sure your database(s) are being maintained and backed up. For large important databases this will generally be undertaken by a specialist “DBA” or database administrator, and you should discuss with them any extra requirements for your spatial data. If you do not have a DBA, you should familiarize yourself with the relevant tools:

For SQL Server:

SQL Server Management Studio, and the online documentation from Microsoft.

For PostGIS:

pgAdmin and the PostgreSQL documentation
